The deceased, identified as Maurice Otieno Okeyo, was reportedly attacked within his uncle’s compound, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A 28-year-old man was killed by a mob in Seme Subcounty, Kisumu, following an alleged spree of violence that left one person injured and several homes vandalized.

The deceased, identified as Maurice Otieno Okeyo, was reportedly attacked within his uncle’s compound, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to a police statement, the incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Seme and Bodi Police Station responded to the scene and found Okeyo’s body bearing multiple wounds to the head and other areas.

“Sticks and stones were found next to the body, believed to have been used by the mob during the assault,” police noted.

Authorities suspect Okeyo had earlier assaulted a local resident and gone on a destructive spree while wielding various weapons, including a panga, rungu, slasher, and hoe.

Reports indicate that the chaos began the evening before, when Okeyo allegedly attacked 59-year-old Johnston Otieno, inflicting a deep cut to his forehead.

Police say the violence resumed the following morning when Okeyo, still armed, moved from house to house, smashing windows, threatening locals, and damaging property.

He is also accused of shattering the windows of a villager’s vehicle during the disturbance.

According to police, the man's aggressive behavior and widespread destruction provoked outrage among residents, ultimately leading to the fatal mob attack.

Investigators processed the scene, and the body was moved to the Kombewa County Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Authorities have since opened a probe into the incident.

Mob justice incidents have been rising steadily across the country, with recent cases highlighting the growing trend.

Just days earlier, on June 11, two unidentified men were lynched by a mob in Huruma, Nairobi.

Police reports indicate the pair, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, were allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle from a rider identified as William Mudavadi.

When the victim raised the alarm, members of the public responded swiftly. One suspect was apprehended and subjected to mob violence.

His accomplice tried to flee but was quickly captured and met the same fate.

The bodies of the two suspects were later set ablaze by the mob, leaving them burned beyond recognition.

Police condemned the incident, reiterating that while crime is punishable by law, taking justice into one’s own hands
