Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has joined a chorus of leaders urging Kenyans to demonstrate responsibility as they prepare for the planned protests on June 25.

In a message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, June 22, 2025, Mbadi appealed for calm and discipline during the demonstrations, stressing that national progress should remain a priority even in times of dissent.

He reminded citizens that while the right to protest is enshrined in the Constitution, it must be exercised with a view toward nation-building.

“We are a country with promises to keep and dreams yet to be fulfilled,” Mbadi noted.

“As we head into the weekend, I encourage every Kenyan patriot to act responsibly. Our constitutional freedoms should not be hijacked by divisive or self-serving political agendas.”

Mbadi also cautioned against allowing demonstrations to become tools for personal or political gain, warning that such actions risk derailing the broader vision of a better Kenya.

His statement follows remarks by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, who on Saturday, June 21, took to X to voice his disapproval of the upcoming protests.

Kaluma argued that while peaceful assembly is protected by the Constitution, lasting solutions to the country’s challenges lie within its institutions.

According to him, true reform and accountability come from strengthening governance frameworks, not taking to the streets.

“All the issues we face as a nation can be addressed through the institutions we created under the Constitution,” Kaluma wrote.

“The streets are not a substitute for structured problem-solving.”

He also warned that unregulated protests could spiral into chaos, threatening the very stability that allows for the exercise of civil liberties.

Kaluma emphasized that the rights Kenyans currently enjoy are sustained by peace and order elements that must be preserved at all costs.

As momentum continues to build toward the June 25 protests, leaders like Mbadi and Kaluma are sounding a note of caution, calling for peaceful engagement rooted in the rule of law.

While many may take to the streets bearing symbols of patriotism, both leaders insist that true progress lies in unity, responsibility, and a shared commitment to the country’s future.
