A group of Somali professionals and elders in Isiolo has called on Members of the County Assembly and other leaders supporting the impeachment of Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo to pursue dialogue and alternative dispute resolution methods before taking drastic steps.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Luqman Ahmed acknowledged that while impeachment is a legal option, it should only be used when all other avenues have been exhausted.

He warned that pushing forward with the process without exploring peaceful alternatives could strain Isiolo’s fragile ethnic balance and threaten social cohesion.

The group expressed concern that a drawn-out impeachment would waste public resources, consume valuable time, and stall key development projects, ultimately disrupting service delivery to residents.

They urged political leaders to focus on unity and progress, saying the county's problems require collective effort rather than divisive political moves.

Abdulkadir Shariff Abdullahi, Chair of the Somali Council of Elders, said the elders are maintaining a neutral position and are ready to mediate and help defuse the rising political tension caused by the impeachment motion.

He noted that Isiolo's unique ethnic diversity demands a more thoughtful and inclusive approach to conflict resolution compared to other counties that have faced similar situations, such as Meru.

The elders said that open dialogue and mediation remain the best path forward, as they promote peace and stability while ensuring that development efforts continue uninterrupted.
