In Summary

The deaths occurred between July 9 and July 14, 2025, prompting concern among residents and swift action from the county's Department of Health.

Health officials in Mombasa County are investigating the deaths of four men in Migadini’s Matangini Village under mysterious circumstances.

The deaths occurred between July 9 and July 14, 2025, prompting concern among residents and swift action from the county's Department of Health.

According to a statement released by the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) on Tuesday, the bodies of the four victims were discovered in their homes. Officials have confirmed that the deceased were all men aged between 55 and 91 years, and had varying underlying medical conditions.

The first incident was reported on July 9, when a 91-year-old woman passed away at home. Community members indicated that her death could be linked to old age and an unspecified chronic illness.

On July 14, three more deaths were reported. A 57-year-old man, who was under medical care for several chronic conditions at Port-Reitz Sub-County Hospital, was found dead in his house.

On the same day, a 69-year-old man known to be asthmatic was also found dead.

His body was discovered in the early stages of decomposition. Another 55-year-old man, who had previously received treatment for dengue fever and was managing chronic illnesses, was found in a similar state.

All the bodies were moved to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations and further medical analysis.

So far, county officials say there is no evidence to suggest the deaths are related to an infectious disease.

Despite the absence of any confirmed outbreak, the health department is urging the public to remain vigilant.

Residents are advised not to handle human remains under any circumstances and to report such cases to authorities immediately.

The county is also calling on residents to work closely with community health promoters, leaders, and local organizations to report any cases of missing persons.

Officials are emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene, including regular handwashing and the use of alcohol-based sanitizers, as a preventive measure.

Residents are also encouraged to seek medical attention promptly if they experience any unusual symptoms.

The health department has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as more information becomes available.
