Organisers have also blacklisted any musical or electronic devices that may interfere with broadcasts or disrupt technical operations at match venues.

Supporters heading to stadiums for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 matches have been warned not to carry whistles, vuvuzelas, flags or food, as strict new safety guidelines take effect across all venues in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Local Safety and Security Department, tasked with enforcing order during the regional tournament, has published a detailed list of prohibited items to ensure smooth match operations and crowd control.

“We urge all fans to comply with stadium rules and maintain calm. Let us show up in large numbers to support the Harambee Stars and ensure a safe tournament,” the department said in a statement.

Noisemaking devices such as megaphones, drums, and loudspeakers will not be permitted. Food is also banned unless required for medical purposes or infant feeding.

Powdered substances like flour and baking powder are prohibited due to safety concerns.

Spectators will not be allowed to enter with drinks or any form of container, including cans, bottles, cups or sealed packaging.

In addition, the department has barred all banners and flags that reference politics, religion, race, gender, nationality or personal identity.

Animals will not be allowed into the stadiums, except for certified service dogs.

Organisers have also blacklisted any musical or electronic devices that may interfere with broadcasts or disrupt technical operations at match venues.

Security officers will be on the lookout for dangerous and restricted items such as weapons, ammunition, explosives, flammable materials, sharp or breakable objects, chemicals, helmets, and other potentially harmful tools.

Fans are also restricted from carrying cooler boxes, suitcases or folding chairs into the venues.

These safety rules will be enforced at all CHAN 2024 stadiums throughout the three co-host countries.

The tournament officially begins on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kenya’s first match will be against the Democratic Republic of Congo at 3pm at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The tournament will conclude on Saturday, August 30, at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The event is a key opportunity for the three East African nations to prepare for co-hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
