In Summary

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza remains confident of winning as she awaits the impeachment ruling, stating that she still plans to run in the 2027 elections.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has expressed confidence in winning as she awaits the impeachment ruling.

Addressing a public gathering in Meru on Tuesday, March 11, Mwangaza claimed that certain leaders within the Meru County government orchestrated her impeachment out of fear of competing against her in the 2027 general elections.

"The problem with leaders who are bullying me is that they are afraid of meeting with me in 2027, but as residents of Meru, just like how God lives forever," she stated.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has challenged leaders dissatisfied with her leadership to wait for the next general election rather than seeking alternative means to unseat her.

She urged them to respect the democratic process and allow the people of Meru to decide her political fate at the ballot.

On August 21, 2024, the Senate upheld the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, sealing her removal from office. The decision followed a vote in the Senate, with Speaker Amason Kingi announcing the outcome.

Mwangaza was found guilty of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violations of the Constitution, leading to her ouster.
