Gabon striker dies after falling from 11th floor in China

The report suggested that an argument occurred between Boupendza and his brother shortly before the fall, prompting further scrutiny.
Gabonese striker Aaron Boupendza has died following a tragic fall from the 11th floor of a building whilst in China, reports have stated.
Boupendza, 28, has been playing in the Chinese Super League for Zhejiang FC since the beginning of this year and featured for the club just four days prior to his fall, a report shared by GhanaSoccernet.
After missing training, the club was concerned and, upon searching for him, found out he had died.
Police in China have launched a full investigation into the incident, considering multiple possibilities, including suicide, an accidental fall, or potential foul play.
The report suggested that an argument occurred between Boupendza and his brother shortly before the fall, prompting further scrutiny.
Known for his pace and sharp finishing, he burst onto the global scene during the 2020 Turkish Super League season, claiming the top scorer title with 22 goals for Hatayspor.
In 2024, he featured for Major League Soccer MLS club Cincinnati, but his stay ended in controversy.
Major League Soccer terminated his contract in December 2024.
The league did not disclose a reason for the decision, however, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Boupendza did not fulfill his contractual obligations.
Boupendza's stint with FC Cincinnati lasted for 13 months, during which he was suspended by the club for its regular-season finale in 2023 following his late return after international duty.
According to reports, Boupendza also dealt with a reported blackmail attempt in January and sustained a broken jaw in April following a fight with a professional boxer outside a downtown establishment.
For his country, Boupendza earned 35 caps and scored eight goals with the Gabon national team.
