Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the arrest on Tuesday night, stating that Muhia is the owner of the vehicle that allegedly blocked the MP, leading to his reported abduction.

A close ally of Juja MP George Koimburi has been arrested by detectives investigating the MP’s alleged abduction, which police now say may have been staged.

Cyrus Kieru Muhia, believed to own the silver Subaru Forester seen in viral footage allegedly involved in the incident, was arrested on Tuesday night and taken to the DCI headquarters for questioning.

Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the arrest on Tuesday night, stating that Muhia is the owner of the vehicle that allegedly blocked the MP, leading to his reported abduction.

"He is being questioned to shed light on what his role was in the whole matter," Nyaga said.

Koimburi was reported missing on Sunday after an incident outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County.

He was later found on Monday at a coffee plantation in the same county and taken to Karen Hospital for treatment. However, police have distanced themselves from claims that he was kidnapped.

The incident gained national attention after an amateur video showing a silver Subaru Forester driving away with the MP went viral.

Investigators from the DCI are now analysing the footage to confirm its authenticity.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja earlier revealed that the MP was being sought over a land fraud case.

He said that on May 23, Koimburi had evaded arrest by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switching off his mobile phone.

"His car, occupied by his driver, was intercepted, and the driver was arrested but later released after recording a statement. The MP only resurfaced yesterday, coinciding with the abduction claims," said Kanja.

The investigation is ongoing, with the police promising to uncover the full story behind the incident.
