Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has announced that the development of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road is nearing completion.

During a youth empowerment event held on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, Mbadi disclosed that President William Ruto is scheduled to officially launch the construction of this crucial road.

The project will create a direct connection between Nairobi and Kenya’s western region.

"There have been constant traffic jams on the Nairobi-Naivasha highway. This situation is unacceptable for our country; we must ensure the road project is completed. That is why President Ruto will officially kick off its construction within the next two months," said Mbadi.

"The Rironi-Mau Summit Road will unlock business opportunities in the western region. This is what true development, equity, and fairness look like."

The CS emphasized that although some areas of the country already have well-developed road networks, the government will focus on prioritizing regions that have been historically overlooked in terms of road infrastructure.

"There are parts of this country with excellent roads, and they deserve them. However, we must also ensure that areas with poor road infrastructure get their fair share of development," Mbadi said.

"While every region deserves quality roads, those that have been neglected should finally be given the opportunity to benefit from improved connectivity."

The road expansion plans gained momentum after President Ruto secured financing from private Chinese investors during his visit to China in April.

The agreement also included funding for the construction of the Nithi Bridge, the Kiambu-Northern bypass, and the Eldoret bypass.

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed announced that Kenya and China had reached an agreement to expand and dual the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit-Malaba highway, as well as develop the Kiambu-Northern Bypass, Eldoret Bypass, and construct the Nithi Bridge a critical project addressing a dangerous stretch notorious for causing multiple fatalities.
