Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Banticha Abdullahi has begun efforts to restore order at the assembly following recent tensions and destruction of property.

On Friday, he toured the damaged assembly chambers and held discussions with County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding to explore ways of reinforcing peace and protecting public institutions.

The tour came in the wake of unrest that broke out after the assembly’s decision to remove Governor Ibrahim Hassan from office.

Speaker Banticha inspected the extent of damage caused during the confrontation and pledged to prioritise unity and stability going forward.

Before the visit, Banticha paid a courtesy call to the County Commissioner, where they agreed on closer coordination between their offices to address insecurity in the county.

“Security is very vital to the development agenda of our county. Therefore, we will work closely with your office,” he said during the meeting.

Commissioner Omoding assured the Speaker that investigations were underway and that all individuals involved in the destruction of county property would be held accountable.

“We must apprehend all those who took part in the vandalism of the Isiolo County Assembly. They will be treated as criminals,” he said.

He noted that the chaos had allowed lawbreakers to target public facilities and insisted that police would not tolerate any further damage.

Omoding also dismissed claims linking the death of a local blogger to the assembly incident, stating the person had been injured in a traffic accident.

On the future of the assembly business, Banticha promised to lead with fairness and urged members to put their differences aside and resume their duties.

“The role of the Assembly is representation, oversight, and legislation. As Speaker, I will perform my duties without bias,” he said.

He noted that the prolonged absence of MCAs had stalled many county operations and called on them to return to their posts without delay.

He further said that the assembly’s committees would engage constructively with the county executive to resolve issues and ensure services continue uninterrupted.
