Wiper condemns attack on Kitui MCA Jacinta Mwoni

The assault, reportedly carried out by individuals connected to Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, took place shortly after Mwoni publicly declared her support for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka during a funeral service.
The Wiper Party has strongly denounced the brutal attack on Kitui MCA Jacinta Mwoni, describing it as a clear case of gender-based political violence.
The assault, reportedly carried out by individuals connected to Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, took place shortly after Mwoni publicly declared her support for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka during a funeral service.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla condemned the attack, calling it not only a criminal offense but also a shameful act of misogyny and political intimidation.
"She was attacked simply for openly supporting Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka at a funeral. That’s all. A woman voiced her opinion, and men responded with violence," SG Abdalla stated.
She underscored that the assault was intentional, not accidental, describing it as a calculated and politically motivated act.
“This was no accident. It was deliberate, targeted, and deeply political,” the statement read.
Abdalla also condemned violence against women leaders, highlighting that silencing women’s voices is a direct attack on their freedom of expression.
"This is yet another example in a long line of assaults on women in leadership a clear message to women: speak out, and you will be harmed. We see this happening, and we are calling it what it truly is: gender-based political violence perpetrated by cowards afraid of women with opinions," the statement concluded.
"Article 33 safeguards every Kenyan’s right to free speech, while Article 38 guarantees the freedom to make political choices. Hon. Mwoni did not violate any laws she was simply exercising her rights. The men who attacked her, however, broke the law," SG Abdalla stated.
She demanded that action be taken against MP Nimrod Mbai, accusing him of orchestrating intimidation against MCA Mwoni through his supporters.
"Instead of condemning the attack, his message was clear: silence this woman by force. Hon. Mbai must be named and held accountable. This is not leadership, it is thuggery disguised in a suit," said Abdalla.
