Police in Ololulunga, Narok South sub-county, have launched investigations into a tragic case in which a woman, believed to be mentally unstable, is suspected of killing her one-year-old daughter on Saturday night.

According to a police report, the incident was brought to the attention of authorities by concerned villagers who had already taken the child’s body to the Ololulunga Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

Officers from the Ololulunga police station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Narok South, visited the hospital where they confirmed the child had sustained deep cut wounds to the head and back.

The body was later moved to Longisa Sub-County Hospital mortuary in neighboring Bomet County, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.

The suspect is also accused of attacking her grandmother, Alice Mutai, who suffered serious injuries. Mutai was initially treated at Ololulunga Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Narok County Referral Hospital for specialized care.

Following the attack, community members, led by a village elder, escorted the suspect to the local police station. She is currently in custody and is expected to face charges once investigations are concluded.
