The National Police Service (NPS) has announced the arrest of five additional suspects connected to the assault on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) vehicles during a raid at the residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in Milimani, Kitale.

In a statement released on Saturday, May 24, 2025, the NPS confirmed that the five individuals were detained following a targeted operation conducted in the area.

The National Police Service (NPS) stated that the five individuals arrested are expected to face charges of malicious damage to property, among other related offences.

According to the NPS, on May 19, 2025, five vehicles belonging to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were vandalized at Governor George Natembeya’s residence during the execution of a lawful search warrant.

In response, a focused police operation was launched in Kitale town to identify and apprehend those involved.

This led to the arrest of five suspects on May 24, 2025, who will face charges linked to the attack.

The police also indicated that the operation is ongoing, with efforts continuing to apprehend additional individuals connected to the assault on EACC officers.

"The operation remains active as efforts continue to trace additional individuals linked to the incident. The arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting police with investigations," said the NPS.

"As a service, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to conducting a thorough and meticulous investigation to ensure this case reaches its logical conclusion and the perpetrators are brought to justice."

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) conducted a raid on Governor Natembeya’s residence as part of an ongoing probe into alleged procurement irregularities, abuse of office, bribery, and the fraudulent misappropriation of Sh1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government during the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 fiscal years.

During the operation, a crowd of residents and supporters gathered outside the governor’s compound, protesting what they described as political intimidation.

The situation quickly turned chaotic as angry youths vandalized EACC and police vehicles, deflated their tires, and blocked roads.

In response, officers deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order.

After the incident, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) initiated a probe into the matter.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, 14 additional suspects were arrested, increasing the total number of detainees linked to the case to 19.
