Today’s visit follows closely after President Ruto’s inspection of the Kibra Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project.

President William Ruto attended a Sunday service at the Africa Inland Church (AIC) in Kibera on May 25, 2025, shortly after a recent tour of the area to assess progress on a government-led housing initiative.

The President was welcomed by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and a host of political allies who joined him for the fellowship in Kibera, one of the capital’s largest informal settlements.

The church visit comes just days after President Ruto hosted clergy from the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya and the Association of Evangelicals of Africa at State House on May 23, 2025.

During the meeting, he stressed the vital role faith leaders play in fostering peace and driving development across the continent.

AIC Kibera has welcomed several notable political leaders over the years, including ODM leader Raila Odinga, who attended a service there on August 28, 2022, following the general election, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who visited on September 20, 2020.

Today’s visit follows closely after President Ruto’s inspection of the Kibra Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project, where he reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Kibera into a modern, dignified estate, highlighting the progress made during the project’s first phase.

"When I launched the housing programme in Soweto B, I promised that, by the grace of God, Kibera would be transformed into a proper estate, and that its appearance would change for the better. As you can see that transformation is already underway," he said.

Ruto also revealed that beyond Soweto B, an additional 15,000 housing units are being built in Southlands, another area within Kibera, which is three times larger than the Soweto phase.

Ruto also noted that his visit to Kibra was to check on the progress of commitments made to residents of Soweto zones C and D, where a comparable housing project is set to take place.
