In Summary

The latest arrest is that of Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta of Murang’a County.

Police have arrested a fourth person in connection with what investigators say was a staged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

The latest arrest is that of Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta of Murang’a County, following earlier arrests of three suspects and seizure of two vehicles allegedly used in the planned incident.

In a statement on Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said, "We wish to confirm that the MCA was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi. It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon George Koimburi the entire night."

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who first confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, said the three earlier suspects had confessed to being part of the fake abduction.

He said one of them admitted to picking up the MP after a church service in Mugutha and dropping him off at a hotel where he spent the night with the other two suspects.

"On May 26, 2025, he picked up the MP from the hotel and took him to the scene where they claimed he had been dumped. Before the MP exited the vehicle, he helped him tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture by the alleged abductors," said the IG.

Police say they have enough evidence to prove that the MP was never abducted or injured. They maintain the entire incident was a simulation allegedly orchestrated by the MP and his close associates.

Despite the claims, Koimburi remains admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi. His health condition has become a subject of speculation after two MPs sent by the National Assembly to check on him were denied access to his hospital ward on Wednesday.

The legislators said a senior nurse told them the MP’s condition could not be disclosed due to confidentiality restrictions.

However, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited Koimburi on Monday, claimed the legislator had been administered a chemical substance that damaged his vocal cords and left him unable to speak.

Police say investigations are ongoing and further updates will be issued in due course.
