Don't use ICT hubs to insult leaders, Kindiki urges youth

Kindiki stressed the importance of responsible behavior when accessing technology and government-supported digital platforms.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyan youth to make constructive use of the upcoming ICT hubs being established in markets, focusing on digital growth and job creation rather than using these facilities to insult political leaders.
Speaking at an Economic Empowerment Engagement event in Kangundo, Machakos County, on Saturday, Kindiki stressed the importance of responsible behavior when accessing technology and government-supported digital platforms.
'When you visit the ICT hubs, avoid using the space to insult leaders," Kindiki urged.
"If you want to remove a leader, wait for the elections and exercise your right to vote. Instead, use the ICT hubs to explore opportunities in e-commerce and digital employment."
The DP revealed that each of the 400 planned modern markets across the country will feature an ICT hub equipped with 100 free computers and internet access, aimed at enhancing computer literacy and digital skills among young people.
This initiative is part of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme, designed to support young entrepreneurs and foster economic development at the grassroots level.
Under the programme, the government will provide Sh50,000 to 70 micro and small enterprises in every ward to help scale their businesses.
"We are investing in these markets because many Kenyans run small businesses and often face risks operating in open spaces," Kindiki explained.
"We have already started building 200 of the planned 400 markets."
He noted that one of the new modern markets currently being developed in Machakos has a budget of Sh450 million, while another in Matuu is valued at Sh350 million.
According to the DP, plans are underway to construct fifteen more markets in areas including Kangundo and Kivani.
Kindiki emphasized the government’s dedication to youth empowerment and restoring dignity through productive employment.
