Police confiscate counterfeit alcohol, fake KRA seal in Uasin Gishu

A joint operation involving police officers and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials raided a private home in the Sinai area of Moiben Sub-County on the night of Saturday, May 24, 2025, uncovering thousands of bottles of counterfeit alcohol.

The crackdown is part of heightened efforts to combat illegal liquor trade in Uasin Gishu County.

The raid also resulted in the seizure of a machine believed to be used for manufacturing fake KRA tax stamps, alongside several liters of ethanol.

During the operation, one person was arrested while several others fled the scene.

Authorities have since launched investigations to apprehend the suspects who escaped.

Although the exact market value of the confiscated items is yet to be confirmed, officials estimate it could be worth millions of shillings.

Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to combat the growing trade of counterfeit and illegal alcohol across the region.

In recent months, similar crackdowns have been conducted throughout various parts of Uasin Gishu, with officials expressing concern over the expanding scale and increasing complexity of these illicit operations.

Authorities now suspect that the manufacture and distribution of illegal brews have moved into upscale residential areas—locations that were previously considered unlikely sites for such activities.

This shift has complicated detection efforts, enabling the trade to continue discreetly within these communities.

Nonetheless, the government, working through coordinated multi-agency teams, has committed to maintaining the crackdown and is calling on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
